    UR Medicine has recently unveiled the nation’s 13th and Upstate and Central NY’s first Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU), a high-tech ‘emergency room on wheels’ that is designed to provide life-saving care to stroke victims.  Dr. Tarun Bhalla will describe how the availability of this state-of-the-art stroke care in our region, will improve outcomes for stroke victims in our community, reduce disability and lower long-term health care costs.

  • Integrating Behavioral Health into Primary Care Through Technology:
    Adam Tatro, DNP, RN

    An integrated behavioral health program within primary care was establish to address the issue of 60-70% of behavioral health (BH) Medicaid patients not receiving any BH services.  Integration of iPads with the Electronic Health Record (EHR) was developed to screen patients and provide real time notification of patients needing BH services or suicide ideation.  Data collected examined number of depression screenings and Emergency Room (ER) utilization.  Depression screening rates doubled from 14% to 38% for the Medicaid population using iPads integrated with the EHR as well as a 40% reduction in ED utilization for the high utilizer population.
