Hospital executives from Pandion Healthcare: Education & Advocacy, in partnership with the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) and the American Hospital Association (AHA), met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in Washington, DC, to discuss the impending cuts to the Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) program.
"Unless Congress takes action, Medicaid DSH payments to New York's hospitals will be cut by more than $7 billion through 2025," said Travis Heider, President & CEO of Pandion Healthcare: Education & Advocacy. "New York hospitals need the funding to cover a portion of the cost of providing healthcare to the most vulnerable patients - the low-income, underinsured and uninsured members of our communities. The cuts are scheduled to go into effect on October 1, 2019. We need Congress to act now."
Senator Schumer has supported efforts to delay the impending cuts - especially because New York stands to lose more funding than any other state. Pandion, HANYS, and AHA will continue to advocate on behalf of New York's hospitals, health systems, and the patients they serve.
